2.02 - Pierre Bourdieu as intellectual and as sociologist of intellectuals
Author/s : Anna Boschetti
Other languages :
The practices of Bourdieu as intellectual « engagé » can not be separated from the sociology of intellectuals that he elaborated. His theory makes it possible to think in a heuristic way questions such as the position of intellectuals in the social structure, their functions, their representations of themselves, the differences which can be observed according to the national traditions, according to the periods and according to the positions of the actors in the field/s where they are situated, as well as the myths, the errors and the abuses of their symbolic power to which the intellectuals are exposed. This paper outlines, at first, the main contributions of the sociology of intellectuals proposed by Pierre Bourdieu, then his practice as intellectual, while underlying the relations between the two aspects. Moreover, it tries to do it, as far as possible, « genetically », i.e. by pointing out the social conditions of possibility of the theoretical and practical position of Bourdieu
