TRANSEO is a transnational and interdisciplinary journal on the production and the use of culture, literature and science
TRANSEO was created by the graduate students who participated in the summer school organized in Rethymnos in 2007 by the European research network ESSE. Promoting colloquia, seminars, summer schools and publications, ESSE (Pour un Espace des Sciences Sociales Européen) has become a space for reflection on the functioning of intellectual fields. Its aim is to contribute to the construction of a transnational space for the social sciences. TRANSEO will offer a means for publication of research sharing this ambition, opening up the geographical, disciplinary and methodological frontiers of studies dedicated to the production and use of culture, ideology and science.
TRANSEO is a peer-reviewed online journal devoted to the production, circulation and reception of art, literature, social and natural sciences. By encompassing a broad scope of symbolic goods, TRANSEO offers the possibility to study the social construction of the boundaries between these different kinds of cultural or theoretical productions. TRANSEO promotes a dialog among disciplines sharing an interest in the social study of symbolic goods, ranging from history to sociology, anthropology or political science. Contributions to TRANSEO should put to work the analytic tools forged by these disciplines through a decisively empirical research. TRANSEO thus aspires to be a space for a reflexive analysis on the methods and techniques of inquiry pertaining to the study of symbolic goods.
TRANSEO is published twice a year. Contributions can be submitted in German, English or French. The call for papers and the abstracts of the articles are presented in the three languages. An international scientific board will evaluate all submitted articles. Every contribution will be considered anonymously by two of its members.
Each issue is a work in progress on a specific topic: an online publication is in fact open to integrations. In order to enhance a debate on a specific shared topic or methodology or functioning, some of the contributions will be presented in juxtaposition. A special column is dedicated to book reviews ; another, “Inquiry as a craft”, is meant to be a space for reflection on specific praxis in the history and the sociology of symbolic power.
